Contemporary Lakeside Jewel in Texas

Three decades back, contract builder Roger Lawrence constructed his fantasy home house along the shores of Lake Travis, just west of Austin, Texas. In the past 16 decades, Lawrence has lived and built in three houses. This newest three-story project may be the one that he settles in for the long haul, even though, because of his family’s love for the lake. “We love the secluded location of the home, but nevertheless it’s still only minutes away from the main highways,” he states. Lawrence collaborated with interior designer Vicki Mayabb to deliver his lakeside vision. His initial sketch of a window layout and a nearby glassblowing firm’s magnificent work got the ball rolling.

On the primary floor of the residence is an impressive great room with 22-footceilings. Visitors are always awestruck with the openness of the floor plan, and a wall bathed in travertine tiles with Lawrence’s original contemporary window layout catches your eye. The tiling is highlighted with cobalt floating cylindrical lamps.

The three-story home overlooks a drought-stricken lake, but the residence is constructed to withstand extreme flood. Building on a flood plain was shown to be Lawrence’s biggest design issue. He constructed the entire garage from concrete with drains therefore that the water levels could be as high as 6 ft there without causing any harm to the rest of the home.

This window layout was started with by the inspiration for your home. Designer Vicki Mayabb created a customized tile layout around the windows. The custom-made, handblown glass lighting fixtures from Wimberley Glass Works complement Roger’s initial vision.

An open attic view from the third floor provides a stunning aerial perspective. Mayabb reflected the blue and green tiling with complementary accent throw cushions. The brown leather sectional is from Nest Modern, and the hickory television cabinet was custom made by Johnson Cabinets. Other furnishings come from Back Door to the Trade.

The kitchen and dining room area includes hickory wood cabinets and travertine flooring with bold blue accents to keep the space contemporary. The handblown pendant lamps are from Wimberley Glass Works, and the dining area table is custom made from oak.

A contemporary art bit jazzes up the entry to the master suite bath. The artist is unknown; Mayabb discovered it in the Objets showroom in Austin.

The master bath is one of the couple’s favorite areas of the home. They love the subtlety of the mosaic glass tiling on the bathtub. “The iridescent glass combined with the natural travertine creates a great background to the bright green walls and area rug,” Lawrence says.

The huge deck extends the entire length of the living room and dining area living room. The family enjoys the wonderful view of Lake Travis from the dual chaise longue and other outside seating options from Exteriors Outdoor Furniture. In the fireplace chunks replace traditional firewood logs.

While the siding seems to be more redwood, wood siding could have been rather difficult to install because of the immense height of the home. Rather, Lawrence stained concrete to make it resemble wood. The blue tile mosaic design on the mailbox is the same as what is featured inside the home.
